Focus on parking in cooperation with Copenhagen

In June, the major European mobility project Elaborator held a major meeting in Copenhagen. The meeting began with a workshop with participants from Copenhagen and Lund to facilitate the exchange of knowledge between cities and to promote work on sustainable mobility. Among other things, Copenhagen shared its experiences with changes to parking spaces in the city centre.

It was on June 10 to 13, 2024 that 38 partners in Elaborator gathered at Copenhagen City Hall for a progress update on the progress of the project so far and to jointly take further steps towards the goal of sustainable mobility in climate-neutral cities. Lund is one of the twelve participating cities and Copenhagen is one of the six leading Lighthouse cities. Copenhagen and Lund work together, which is why the project for these cities began with a pre-meeting attended by Lund Municipality, Sensative and Future by Lund, among others.

Copenhagen has a long history of work on sustainable urban mobility, for example through the introduction of cargo bikes in Christiania and through the metro, which was inaugurated in 2002 as a complement to cycling.

Copenhagen's plans in the project are described on Elaborator's website:

“The pilot project in Copenhagen is being carried out against the backdrop of significant changes to the parking lot in the medieval city centre, where 600 parking spaces will be moved to parking garages and bicycle parking will be moved from squares to nearby streets. To understand citizens' reactions to this, Copenhagen is conducting two surveys, one with private motorists and one with users of commercial vehicles, as these different user groups may behave differently and parking spaces are primarily for private use.” (translated by FBL)

In addition to this, Copenhagen Living Lab will work, among other things, with traffic safety at specific intersections and with residents through a 4D observation tool/questionnaire.

During the main meeting that followed, where all project partners participated, several workshops were organized to facilitate idea development and, for example, to start new workflows between cities and technical partners.

The project in Sweden is carried out in collaboration between Future by Lund, Lund Municipality, Sensative and Linköping University, with the support of AXIS Communications. There are a total of 38 project partners in Europe. Elaborator started in the summer of 2023 and is funded under EU Horizon.
