Lecture series with experiences from innovation platforms

Ten years ago, Vinnova launched innovation platforms in some Swedish cities — Borås, Gothenburg, Kiruna, Lund, Stockholm and eventually Umeå to meet the needs of innovation and collaborations around smart sustainable cities. Now it's time to summarize the work of the platforms. For this reason, the Rise research institute is conducting a digital tour in which seven researchers share lessons and experiences from 10 years of follow-up research on innovation platforms in Sweden.

Innovation work in the six cities is an exciting concept with both challenges and opportunities, and different solutions have been found in the different places. During the digital lectures, seven researchers share lessons and experiences.

The tour begins with a brief introduction and then at the following tour stops dive into innovation work in the public sector from different perspectives. The tour will be conducted as breakfast or lunch meetings of 45 minutes with 25 minutes of presentation and 15 minutes of question time. The primary target group is municipalities, but other public actors are also welcome. Magnus Johansson from Rise will give the overview introduction on 6 September.

One of the innovation platforms is Future by Lund (FBL). The FBI's companion researcher Emily Wise will present The City's System Agents on September 13. Emily Wise works as a researcher at CIRCLE and senior strategist at LU Sam. Emily holds a PhD in Innovation Policy (on the role of intermediaries in innovation processes), and continues to work on issues related to governance/governance (including evaluation) of innovation ecosystems and collaborative initiatives.

- My presentation will be about Future by Lund's journey as an innovation platform — how FBL has rigged and developed working methods to mobilize many actors in the Lund ecosystem to act together across actor sectors and industries to solve societal challenges, says Emily Wise.

Future by Lund is the only one in this context that has pursued active innovation work in the gap between municipality, academia, organisations and business.

- Future by Lund's function as a system intermediary, as an actor between different organisations, has contributed to both new solutions and a stronger innovation ecosystem. The platform has become an important connecting space where many actors (including municipalities, universities, organizations and large and small companies, including start-ups) can step in and develop things together. FBL's role as a change agent for the system has strengthened Lund's innovation ecosystem and Future by Lund now continues to receive new assignments (for example, the Lund Innovation District) to further develop Lund, says Emily Wise.
