Mobility service EC2B in several new construction projects

The mobility service EC2B has for some years been developed in project form in housing associations and tenants' associations in both Lund and Gothenburg. Recently, it has become clear that the service will be used as a sustainable solution in a number of new construction projects. “Now we see that EC2B is really needed,” says Christer Ljungberg, Chairman of the Board.

There are many possibilities when it comes to reducing CO2 emissions from transport. Some of them are, of course, travel-free meetings, to use active mobility such as walking and cycling or public transport. Another proposal is to make use of Mobility as a Service (MaaS). Such a service means that it is possible to find, book and pay for, for example, public transport, car pool, bicycle pool and electric car rental through an app on the user's smartphone.

EC2B is a mobility service that is tailored to the needs of the customer and brings together the sustainable travel options in one app. Work on the app started on Trivecteur Trafic in Lund in 2014 and 2018 EC2B became its own company. The first project was the housing association Viva in Gothenburg followed by LKF's Xplorion in Lund, where Future by Lund also participated. For LKF and Xplorion, the app has meant that the accommodation has been made car-free, where the only parking space belonging to the house is that of the car in the car pool.

EC2B is independent of the supplier and connects the relevant actors on the site to the solution that, for example, property owners, residential areas or business areas require. A prerequisite for being able to collect mobility services in one app is, of course, that they are digitized, and that is what an increasing number of services are.

When the customer wants to introduce a mobility service, EC2B offers its knowledge to investigate what mobility exists and what needs it should solve. The business models are slightly different and it can be both B2B, B2C or to an association of businesses or associations. EC2B can also consider contributing its knowledge and platform to develop questions and write applications or to test new features in ticketing, mobility classes and so on.

Another service is called a mobility wallet. It is a tool for employers/housing associations/tenants' associations to make a fairer offer for employees/residents through a mobility pot that can be used for e.g. public transport, bicycle pool and car pool instead of all residents getting a public transport card, for example. ,

Recently, EC2B has noticed that interest in the MAAS solution has increased.

- We have begun to reach a maturity stage where we contribute benefit and value to property owners and individuals. What is driving the whole thing is an increase in digital property management,” says EC2B CEO Lennart Persson. This creates a maturity for the “As a Service” industry and we are changing traditional business models and processes to new and more efficient ones.

EC2B will be used in Karlastaden in Gothenburg with Karlatornet, the tallest building in the Nordic region.

Recently, EC2B has started working on GoCo health Innovation City in Mölndal, a health-oriented area with both residences and businesses. Such a combination allows, for example, the car pool to be potentially used by the activities on days and by the residents on evenings and weekends. IN Science Village In Lund, the area between ESS and MAX IV, EC2B is also investigating the possibilities of transport as a service. One property in Lund that is connected is Brinova's Cykelskrapan facility — in the former tax scrapyard at Karhögstorg. It houses small apartments without an associated parking space, but which instead have mobility services as an option. Other new projects include mobility houses at Ulleråker in Uppsala and Karlastaden in Gothenburg — in which Karlatornet, the tallest building in the Nordic countries, is included. More recently, there have also been requests to use the service in existing residential areas as well.

- Now we see that EC2B is really needed. We have learned lessons in the first projects and have learned a lot about how it works and how it doesn't work. It's great that we can now take the first steps and do it for real,” says Christer Ljungberg, Chairman of the Board of EC2B.
