Smarter lighting on Ideon
During October 2016, the Future by Lund team wore smart watches to collect data on health in an office environment. The team recorded data such as heart rate, body temperature, body sweating and more to be able to see a pattern and then adapt a light to suit the working environment.
A new lighting facility was installed in Future by Lund's premises at Ideon in 2016. The facility consisted of a dynamic light that varied automatically simultaneously in both color temperature and intensity over the course of the day. Physically, it is about luminaires from Auralight with 60x60 cm tiles on the ceiling with “tunable white” and partly suspended luminaires, also those in “tunable white”. (Tunable white means having different colored LEDs that can be mixed to the specific light you want by controlling them to glow with different strengths.) Control is carried out by means of equipment from Zumtobel.
The lighting changes constantly both in terms of color temperature and intensity according to a predetermined schedule, so that it becomes a white light with a peak in the blue area in the morning, a more yellowish light during the afternoon to have a more red tone towards the end of the working day. How those staying in the room react to this is recorded through smart watches and this data is collected and evaluated. This is done partly to compare with previously existing light but also to create a more adapted curve to the specific room and the activity that takes place there. For example, you could get a light that affects the stress level of those in the room - and then it could be useful to be able to provide a light that lowers the heart rate during intense days.
Wihlborgs AB collaborates in this sub-project with SP on innovative lighting at Ideon. Together, they are testing how lighting can be controlled in conjunction with daylight so that the effects inside the premises are as good as possible so that those who stay there can work and feel good. The collaboration came about thanks to talks between Ideon Open, SP and Wihlborgs within the framework of Future by Lund.
