Future by Lund works with various new housing and workplace concepts that combine technical solutions with new behavioural patterns, for example in mobility, housing and consumption. Here we work with robust, circular and climate-neutral local solutions in the city, for example for energy and water.

The concepts create new qualities for individuals and for people in social contexts, while contributing to a more sustainable development.

RecoLab: Three separate sewer pipes make wastewater a resource

Many people have probably thought about using the best quality water for flushing toilets with and for washing clothes in. Now a step is being taken towards circulating water in a different way in the new district of Oceanhamn in Helsingborg. There, RecoLab is built to handle the Three Pipes Out sewage system. RecoLab is also a test bed and researchers from all over the world will be able to study the flows — and in this way the used water can become a resource to reuse.

Lighting Metropolis, Green Economy: The lighting of the future is tested in Greater Copenhagen

In recent years, interest in how light affects living beings has increased significantly. Nobel laureates have shown that natural sunlight helps us optimize our physiology for the different phases of the day, and this has led to various tests of sunlight-like lighting indoors. A related topic is how people are affected by being exposed to light at night. In the Lighting Metropolis project, municipalities and regions in Greater Copenhagen have tested how LED lighting can be used to save energy and create healthier lighting environments.

Lund Municipality, Kraftringen: Good results in Smart Cities Accelerator

Smart Cities Accelerator is a project that brings together several municipalities, power companies and academic institutions in the Öresund region to create a fossil-free future through new energy solutions. The results could, among other things, lead to a more energy-efficient district heating network, increased sustainability in neighborhoods and teaching materials that inspire school students to green solutions.

Lighting Metropolis I: Evening football, disco dance & luminous pedestrian tunnel

In the Lighting Metropolis project, four grove environments have been transformed with the help of light. A football field in Nöbv has received lighting that attracts both evening matches and disco dancing. Even in Monument Park, along a cycle track and in a pedestrian tunnel, the lighting has been changed so that it is perceived as both more pleasant and safer. Now the ideas can spread to other environments.

Attractive Nordic towns: Nordic interest in Lund and Veberöd

Sønderborg in Denmark, Hornafjørdur in Iceland and Lund — what can they learn from each other that they can't learn from big cities like Madrid and Berlin? Eighteen smaller cities participated in a project to investigate how Nordic cities can become more attractive and sustainable. Lund showed how to work with urban planning in Västerbro, civic engagement in Veberöd and innovations in Future by Lund.

Human Centric Light - Multiple Test Environments

Human Centric Light (HCL) has been a focus area that Future by Lund has been working on for a long time. During the project, through several demo installations, we have explored the effects and possibilities of how light affects us humans. We have seen many positive effects of a green light both in school, healthcare and office environments.

Future Living: Medicon Village in feasibility study on housing

When Medicon Village planned to build new apartments at Helgonagården next to its area in Lund, the ambition was to build sustainable apartments for the future. Before the start of the project, a project group made a preliminary study that they chose to call Future Living. There were then ideas that residents would be able to share travel, gadgets, storage and transportation, that heating would be done in a sustainable way and that the homes could have special lighting to make the residents feel good.

Smarter lighting on Ideon

During October 2016, the Future by Lund team wore smart watches to collect data on health in an office environment. The team recorded data such as heart rate, body temperature, body sweating and more to be able to see a pattern and then adapt a light to suit the working environment.
