Future by Lund member adesso uses his expertise in IT to step into a project that deals with how to use digital product passports (DPP) and create circular business models in the manufacturing industry. “As yet, we don't know exactly what DPP will become, but we would love to be involved and learn. For us, it is clear that DPP will be something completely new,” says Helena Bendz. “adesso means' now 'in Italian and staying ahead is in the company's DNA.”

In autumn 2025, an application will be submitted for the continuation of the project MCRS — which is about building a model for a sustainable manufacturing industry. In this, the digital product passport (DPP) will be important. EU is expected to introduce the DPP requiring digital information to be attached to certain products and participants will explore what this could mean in terms of both challenges and opportunities. In the new project, the idea is to increase the number of project partners from five to nineteen. One of these players is a member of Future by Lund adesso Sweden.

adesso is an international IT service provider and focuses on consulting services and bespoke software development. The office at Stortorget in Malmö has 25 employees.

- We have a very broad offer, but we start from what we are good at in the German parent company and then decide what is suitable in Sweden, says Helena Bendz. We have a wide range of clients, and in Lund we have had consultants at Ericsson, Sony and Axis, among others.

Now that the digital product passport can be introduced in several industries, including the textile industry, adesso is keen to participate.

- When starting with DPP, everything needs to be connected in a new way, and there we believe that our knowledge can be useful because we know different processes, but also have extensive experience in integrating data from different sources. At the same time, this is something new and we need to investigate what is our role in this so that we can be an expert partner to our clients. We do not yet know exactly what will become of the DPP, but it is clear that it will be something completely new!

The EU's new regulatory framework for creating a more sustainable society is also an important starting point.

- When new regulations come in, it speeds up innovations. I think we need something compelling for change to kick in. I personally hope it leads to an easier way for us consumers to be able to make the right decisions.

adesso has many elements that make them have a lot to contribute to the project. Among other things, they have a platform that allows you to see how much carbon emissions a software entails. In Germany, the company has its own business division for sustainable business, and the German and Finnish offices also work on gaining experience on DPP.

At adesso's office in Borås there is a habit of working with companies in the field of clothing through e-commerce customers. Helena Bendz's colleague Henrik Palmkvist also brings experiences from e-commerce into the new project.

Helena Bendz sees that the DPP can do a lot of good in the textile industry.

- It can be about how complaints can be processed, that you can show where the garment is made and give recommendations on repair. There may even be authorised tailors nearby, and the DPP can tell you more about where to go to patch their garments.

In the autumn of 2025, Vinnova will decide whether they can grant funds to the project, in which nineteen partners and about forty associates are included.
