Vad?

In Future by Lund, we work with sensors, interconnected data sources and mobile data to create the future city where people, organizations, infrastructure and sensor systems work together to create a sustainable environment with a high quality of life. Digital living platforms and understanding mobility flows and the environment through data from sensors are important parts.

Varför?

The knowledge of actual conditions that we obtain through data from sensors can make the design of the city more efficient and better. Through connected solutions, the city can become more open, which contributes to the creation of more participation.

Smart villages: Hugo the robot rolls out food and environmental benefits to the Veberödsfolk

Smart Villages will test the delivery robot Hugo to deliver food and other goods to elderly people in their homes or to special accommodation in Veberöd. Hugo is a small box on wheels powered by electricity that runs on the footpath. The benefits of the tiny robot could be that carbon emissions are reduced and that care staff get more time for contact with the elderly. Perhaps opportunities for greater togetherness are also created when several people can order home the dish of the day to eat together.

Smart Villages: Road status in rural areas

With the help of a specially equipped mobile phone, it is possible to get an image of the status of the roads and this is tested in Helsingborg and Stockholm, among others. In Veberöd, a project will be carried out in 2022 to see how this works in rural areas.

Lund University: RobotLab

Epi is a kind of human-like robot found in the Department of Cognitive Science at Lund University. The eyes are large and this is important because scientists in the humanities use the robots to study the interaction between robot and human. Work on the robots has now progressed so far that others may also be allowed to use them in experiments. This provides an opportunity for innovative constellations with researchers from different disciplines but also for representatives from the business world to investigate the intersection of soft values and robotics.

Lund Municipality, Sensative: Stencrussen counts visitors with sensors

How many people stay at Stenkrossen's premises? Starting in 2022, the Department of Culture and Leisure and the Lunds Company Sensative are investigating in an innovation project how they can use sensors to measure how many people use the premises. In this way, the municipality receives important statistics that can create opportunities to ensure that the premises are used in the best way.

Lund Municipality, Mobile Heights: DigIT Hub to be established in southern Sweden

DigIT Hub Sweden will be one of four EU-funded hubs to be located in Sweden. The Hub is operated by 29 organizations and partners. Lund Municipality is part of the partnership which also consists of other municipalities, regions, higher education institutions and companies in southern Sweden. DigIT Hub Sweden aims to stimulate the widespread use of digital technology among southern Swedish organisations.

RISE: Security of sensor data

More and more things in our environment are becoming connected and this makes many people think about IoT and security. So did Thomas Carnehult on Rise. He was the project manager for a project that created security for sensor data, all the way from the sensor to the platform where the data was collected. The example used by the project was the sensors that kept track of the electrical cabinets in the SOM project. “We make it as safe as you can do it today,” says Thomas Carnehult at Rise.

Lund Municipality, Kraftringen: Good results in Smart Cities Accelerator

Smart Cities Accelerator is a project that brings together several municipalities, power companies and academic institutions in the Öresund region to create a fossil-free future through new energy solutions. The results could, among other things, lead to a more energy-efficient district heating network, increased sustainability in neighborhoods and teaching materials that inspire school students to green solutions.

IoT and Big Data bring new legal requirements

As the Internet of Things and the possibilities of Big Data grow, this means that more and more data about us as individuals are stored. In 2018, the EU adopted a stricter data protection law with greater protection of individuals, which brought changes and restrictions. In order to prevent the law from becoming an obstacle for smaller players to launch digital and database-based products and services, Future by Lund started a project to explore what GDPR can mean and what legal conditions apply.
