Climate-Neutral City

The portfolio focuses on various activities to drive solutions for a climate-neutral city. The focus is mainly on the city of Lund and the initiatives that Lund Municipality leads. The portfolio includes activities such as piloting and demo, climate investments, stakeholder collaboration, scale-up and more to make a greater impact in society.

Here we are in Lund with and for that. Lund Municipality has the ambition to be climate-neutral, fossil-fuel-free and adapted to a changing climate by 2030. That,. This means that city actors need to be involved in various areas such as mobility, property use and carbon capture in order to achieve results.

Varför?

Cities have a crucial role to play in achieving climate neutrality. In the EU, about 75% of citizens live in cities. Cities consume much of the world's energy and also account for a high share of global carbon emissions. Lund's ambition is to be a frontrunner as one of the EU's chosen 100 mission cities and in the EU's work on the Green Deal.

Partners include Lund Municipality (which leads), Lund University, companies, financial actors, organisations and actors who have a crucial role in implementing decisions, activities and investments to radically reduce climate emissions.

CoAction Lund: Unique collaboration for climate neutrality

The CoAction Lund project brings together 25 actors to make Lund climate-neutral by 2030. The large-scale change will be achieved through 40 different activities in the areas of sustainable travel and new ways of producing, storing and sharing energy. In June 2024, Vinnova granted project support and now in August the work prepared for one year will be demolished. Here, project manager Markus Paulsson at Lund Municipality tells us more about CoAction Lund!

CoPilot: Lund one of the EU's selected pilot cities

In Lund, intensive work on climate solutions is ongoing. Lund is one of 100 European cities selected by the EU to lead the way in the climate transition to become climate neutral by 2030. Now it is also clear that Lund's work is enhanced by the fact that the city has been selected as one of the EU's pilot cities because the city is innovative, cooperates with other actors in and outside Lund and intends to spread developed solutions to more cities around Europe.

CoAction, pre-project: Lund Municipality in new major climate cooperation

CoAction Lund is a project that brings together actors in Lund in a large-scale process of change in order to make Lund climate neutral by 2030. The municipality of Lund is leading the project and in the long term other cities can get involved — now the investment receives one million SEK to start the work. CoAction Lund has been appointed as one of two pilots in Sweden to demonstrate the way towards climate neutrality.

Lund Municipality: Trans-PED transforms cities using plus-energy areas

Plus-energy neighbourhoods are a great way to achieve carbon reduction targets, while creating more resilient and livable cities. In order to make it easier to develop more areas with positive energy, it is important to make changes in the way cities are planned, designed and operated. In the Trans-PED project in which Lund Municipality participates, the aim is to develop a governance model that can lead to profound changes in cities.

Lund Municipality: Brunnshög, the district of innovations

Brunnshög's vision is to be a world-leading environment for innovation and research. ESS and MAX IV are expected to attract researchers from all over the world, and Lund Municipality's strong sustainability ambitions mean that many leading edge projects will be used in the district. Sweden's largest garbage collection system, the world's largest low-temperature district heating network and Sweden's first Svanen-branded student house have already been unveiled and in the future more innovations will be introduced — such as legionella killers, sewage heat exchangers and a natural swimming pool.

Lund Municipality: Climate Neutral Lund 2030 Stage 2

Lund Municipality was one of nine cities participating in Stage 1 of the Climate Neutral Cities 2030 project. In October 2021, it became clear that Lund will be allowed to continue in Stage 2 together with 22 other Swedish cities.

Lund Municipality: 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030

In 2022, Lund was named one of the EU's 100 climate-neutral cities. With this decision, Lund will be supported, promoted and presented as an example of how we can work towards becoming a climate-neutral city.

Climate neutral Lund: “One key to climate neutrality is that everyone contributes”

The first part of the Climate Neutral Lund 2030 project is coming to an end and an action plan will soon be presented. Hopefully Viable Cities will give the go-ahead for a continuation as early as this fall. Meet project manager Thea Ohlander Arfwidsson who loves high goals — and who absolutely believes that Lund will be a climate-neutral city by 2030!
